Death of Frederico José Appleton Moreira Rato

 

The Board of Directors of the Reditus Group sadly announces the death of its Vice-Chairman, Dr. Frederico José Appleton Moreira Rato, who was a key leading figure in the history of Reditus and the Information Technology sector in Portugal.

He was very closely involved in the course taken by Reditus after 1980, when the company, which had been founded in 1966, was acquired by the Moreira Rato family. All the company employees will certainly remember the example of his competence, companionship and tenacity, which had a clear impact on the continuing growth of the Reditus Group. 

It is this exemplary behaviour that all those who had the privilege of working with Dr. Frederico Moreira Rato will surely miss, and it is the responsibility of all to perpetuate his memory in the same demanding sense of duty and the good practices that ensure the sustainability of the Reditus Group business.

The Board of Directors and all the employees of the Reditus Group extend their sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Frederico José Appleton Moreira Rato.  

Frederico Moreira Rato - Biographical Note

Born in Lisbon on 22 September 1950, Frederico José Appleton Moreira Rato held a degree in Mathematics from the Faculdade de Ciência (School of Science) of Lisbon, and post-graduate studies in Biometrics and Numerical Taxonomy.

He began his professional career in the Ministry of Agriculture, in the areas of Statistics and Informatics, and was a founding member of the Interministerial Commission on Informatics.

He was a consultant for Mobil Oil Portuguesa from 1976 until 1980, the year he began his close involvement in the Reditus project,

In 1980, he became a member of the Reditus Board of Directors, where he held various positions, including that of Chairman of the Executive Committee.

Among other offices held, he was Director of Apesi – Associação Portuguesa das Empresas de Serviços de Informática; Director and founder of Apritel – Associação dos Operadores Privados de Telecomunicações until 2004; a member of the General Council of APDSI and Chairman of the Board of the association Portugal Outsourcing.

He participated in many seminars and conferences and was a recipient of the honorific Commendation of the Order of Merit.
